Khao Tang Kuan
Another charming hill-top attraction in Leam Samila area is Khao Tang Kuan which is not only the place visitors can catch the beautiful city view and Songkhla Lake but also where the famous Sala Vihan Daeng, the royal pavilion built during King Rama V’s reign, is located. Beside the Sala Vihan Daeng is the sacred pagoda Dvaravati Chedi built during the Nakhon Si Thammarat Empire believing that it contains the Lord Buddha’s relics.
The famous festival takes place in October where the locals gather to drape the chedi with a cloth and offer alms to monks who descend to the foot of the mountain to receive alms. There are also monks from other temples in Songkhla travel here by boat especially during this festival allowing the locals to make merit by giving alms and pull their boats when the boat proceed along the waterfront.
